Consumer Fireworks

Sales to the public permitted

Consumers may purchase 1.4G fireworks only from one of the approximately 50 licensed sales locations. Delivery of fireworks must occur at licensed location as internet sales with direct shipments to consumers in Ohio are prohibited.

SPECIFICALLY PERMITTED – Ohioans are permitted to discharge 1.4G consumer
fireworks in Ohio on certain days.

RESTRICTIONS DATES – New Years Day; Chinese New Year’s Day; Fifth day of May (Cinco de
Mayo); the last Monday in May, and the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding
that day; Juneteenth (June 19); July 3, 4, and 5; The first Friday, Saturday and Sunday
before and after July 4, Labor Day and the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding
Labor Day; Diwali; New Years Eve.

TIMES: 4 p.m. – 11 p.m., except for New Year’s Eve (4 p.m.-11:59 p.m.) and
New Year’s Day (12 a.m. – 1 a.m.; 4 p.m. – 11 p.m.)

LOCAL GOVERNMENT: Municipalities may restrict the dates and time or ban
the usage of consumer fireworks.

PERMISSION – Only permitted on private property, with authorization from the
property owner.

AGE TO DISCHARGE – No person under the age of 18 is permitted to handle or
discharge fireworks.

LICENSED LOCATION – any person who intends to purchase consumer fireworks must
do so only from a licensed retailer, licensed manufacturer or licensed wholesalers.

SAFETY FEE – A fee is imposed on licensed retailers, licensed manufacturers, and
licensed wholesalers selling 1.4G fireworks in Ohio. The fee is 4% of the gross receipts
from retail sales. All money collected is credited to the fireworks fee receipts fund shall
fund firefighter training programs and to pay expenses of the state fire marshal.

Usage prohibited, with exception for trick and novelty items and sparklers.

Exception: trick and novelty items, smoke devices and sparklers may be purchased from any general business location in Ohio and used by consumers in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
